In this mood board, I have included:
-a central main image of a choral shot of Billy Joel's 'Uptown Girl' as, not only is it the song I'm using, I also hope that I can borrow the video's roots in musical theatre
-Leading from that, I screenshotted the moment from the 1978 'Grease' film during 'Summer Days' in which John Travolta's character leads a group in a short dance motif. The idea of choral dancing is something I wish to develop for my Video, especially given the musical theatre links.
-The image of the stage represents my desire to 'musical-ise' the Video, but it also an image taken inside the Kettering Lighthouse Theatre, anchoring my intentions to use my local area as best as I can.
The top left image is a screenshot from Tom Hooper's 2012 adaptation of 'Les Miserables', a very successful stage musical. This shot in particular is taken during the 'One Day More' climax, showing Samantha Barks' Eponine preparing to join the revolution effort. While I don't intend to have any clear connections between my Video and this film, Hooper's particular style of camera direction inspires me to try something similar and add a cinematic edge to my Video.
- Additionally, I have included image representations of key themes I have identified in the song's lyrics: Love, Community, Social Class and Determination. I intend to use these themes as I go on to storyboard potential shots for my Video, particularly for the narrative aspects as opposed to the performances.
