Statement of Intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)

Product 1

My music video will be targeted at the AB demographic and, taking inspiration from the original song, will use romance in order to transgress the boundaries of social class for the pursuit of a goal. My narrative for Billy Joel’s ‘Uptown Girl’ will be interspliced with elements of performance.

I intend to use a wide range of camera shots, including close and wide, in order to exaggerate the romantic distance between the two protagonists. I’m hoping that this hyperbolic presentation of admiration, coupled with the distance of class divide, will create a fairytale-like narrative that would appeal to my target audience of 16-25 year olds. While this presentation of love may be a typicality enforcing the idolised perception of love, I am choosing to not present romance in a way that covers the harsher aspects of a real, functioning relationship to ensure that the content I present is in keeping with the positive attitude of an inspiring anthem.

Product 2

I will aim to promote my artist by creating a brand identity. This will be done using a range of conventions within my website (such as hyperlinks) to make it easier to navigate my site, which will be clear at the top of the webpage. I will also feature a variety of Artist images in order to make the product centric to the Artist. As well as this, I intend to heavily advertise the music video as the ‘latest release’ or ‘debut track’ so as to anchor both products to the Artist.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)

In order to link my media products, I will clearly place my Artist logo and Name so that it is easy for audiences to identify. To compliment this, on the website, I will include various ways to interact with the audience (i.e booking tour tickets) to further anchor the two products together, whilst also providing a fresh perspective that may appeal to the audience. A possible avenue to explore would be the fictional creation of merchandise that I could feature both on the artist in the video, as well as a separate section of the website, in order to create the illusion of a fanbase, thusly cementing my Artist’s image.
